WASHINGTON -- Fabian Espindola scored twice and added an assist to lead D.C. United to a 4-1 victory over short-handed FC Dallas on Saturday night. Bobby Boswell and Sean Franklin also scored for the Washington club, which extended its unbeaten run to five matches and scored all four of its goals after the first-half ejection of Dallas defender Zach Loyd. Dallas Michel also was sent off late by referee Fotis Bazakos. D.C. forward and U.S. World Cup hopeful Eddie Johnson assisted on Espindolas first goal just before halftime, but left in the 51st minute with an apparent leg injury. Mauro Diaz put the visitors ahead early to extend Dallas streak of scoring at least one goal to seven matches. United improved to 3-2-2, and Dallas dropped to 5-2-1. But Dallas has conceded eight goals in its last three matches after allowing only six over its first five. United rarely looked like scoring, however, until Bazakos issued a second yellow card for Loyds slide tackle on Uniteds Davy Arnaud in the 39th minute. D.C. immediately seized momentum and pulled even deep into first-half stoppage time when Espindola headed in Johnsons outswinging cross. United then sealed things over a 10-minute span midway through the second half. Boswell put United ahead in the 60th minute when he hammered in a rebound after Chris Seitz saved Conor Doyles initial close-range shot. It was 3-1 three minutes later when Espindola split a pair of Dallas defenders on the left and chipped a cross toward Franklin, who side-footed his finish inside the right post. In the 69th, Espindola scored his second -- and his fourth of the season -- when he took Chris Rolfes feed on a counter attack and drove another low finish beyond Seitz. After snapping a 15-match streak without a victory that stretched back to August of 2013, United is now on its longest unbeaten run since it went seven unbeaten to close the 2012 regular season. Thaddeus Young scored seven of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, Evan Turner added 22 points, and the 76ers hung on for their first road win since Nov. 1, beating the depleted Los Angeles Lakers 111-104 on Sunday night. Anthony Bemboom Jersey . After a tight first half, the Croatians took command in Reykjavik after Skulason was dismissed for a professional foul in the 51st minute, but couldnt find a way past Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson and his packed defence. Eduardo had a weak shot cleared away from near the goalline after barely a minute for Croatia, whose substitute Ivica Olic forced a fine reaction save from Halldorsson in the 55th. Kole Calhoun Jersey . And thats good news for Canada. Kelly, who plays No. 8 at the back of the scrum, is captain of the Canadian womens team.COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil -- FIFA has switched the starting times of seven World Cup matches, including the U.S.-Portugal game on June 22 in the Amazonian jungle city of Manaus. FIFPro, the international soccer players union, had pressed FIFA to avoid the earliest kickoffs in the hottest and most humid weather. After FIFA declined to change the two-year-old schedule, FIFPro suggested that the governing body "considers the demands of TV companies of greater importance than the health and safety of the players." The U.S.-Portugal game initially was set for 3 p.m. local time. Two other games in Manaus -- England vs. Italy on June 14 and Cameroon vs. Croatia on June 18 -- were moved ahead three hours to 6 p.m. The Englland-Italy switch means Ivory Coast vs.ddddddddddddJapan will now start at 10 p.m. local time in the tropical coastal climate of Recife. On June 18, Cameroon-Croatia flips kickoff slots with Spain vs. Chile, which now starts at 4 p.m. in Rio de Janeiro. That means Spains appearance at the Maracana Stadium will now start in Spanish prime time instead of midnight back home. The U.S.-Portugal move forced two other changes. Belgium vs. Russia will start at 1 p.m. local time in Rio de Janeiro, instead of 7 p.m., which would have required European viewers to stay up well beyond midnight. South Korea vs. Algeria was moved to 4 p.m. local time in the coolest, most southern World Cup city of Porto Alegre from 1 p.m. ' ' ' |
